This activity was and could be a really good way to see your students' creativity while also learning about them and their peers. It is also a very inexpensive and simple way to do it. First, the students choose a piece of colored construction of their choosing and trace either one or both of their feet on it. Once that is done, they can cut out their foot. Using multiple types of media (newspaper, magazine, crayons, markers, etc), the students are to decorate their foot in a way that represents them and their interests. These things could include family, friends, interests, sports, etc. One requirement is for each student have their name incorporated onto the foot somewhere.
On my foot, I put pictures of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone because they are my favorite actors. A little television represents the fact that I love to watch all sorts of different tv show sand movies. I have two hockey sticks to represent the sport that I played all of my life. And lastly, some music notes are intermixed throughout the foot because music has always been a part of my life.
Extension:
This activity could easily be used along with a math lesson dealing with distance. After everyone had their feet cut out, they could be used to measure how long a classroom or hallway is. Each of the students could write a story about their print and it could be shared in Language Arts class.
